On-device vs cloud spatial-video conversion
Compare privacy, transfer time, hardware use and control before choosing a conversion workflow.
Where the source video goes
A cloud workflow sends source footage to infrastructure operated by another party. Local conversion keeps the source on the Apple device and uses its own compute resources. This distinction matters most for personal, confidential or very large videos.
Trade speed for control
Cloud services can provide powerful remote hardware, but upload time and service availability become part of the process. On-device conversion avoids upload and can work without a processing connection, while speed depends on the local system.
- Local: no upload and direct file control
- Cloud: remote compute but transfer and retention questions
- Both: review output quality with the same source
Read the privacy claim precisely
“On-device” should describe the actual processing path, not only where an app starts. Twineye bundles its depth model and states that video processing does not use network communication.
